  • 'MACKIE 2003/04'
After a very early start to the season the new look Committee
started work on restoring the club to a strong force in the
CMCA, both in senior and juniors divisions - not just on being
winners but to be able to field eleven players per team each
    week.

The Committee after consultation with senior players and
supporters decided, for the first time, to advertise for a
Professional Coach / Player. The rest is history, as Gary Scott,
ex-coach from Bentleigh ANA who was available at the time,
contacted us and was duly appointed as Mackie cricket Club
Captain Coach. The end of season result was that Mackie fielded
4 Senior mens teams, with the First Eleven, in Longmuir Shield
under Garys control, finishing the season in second position on
the ladder and playing off in the finals for the first time in
some years. It should be noted that Gary is the first paid player
or coach in the club's 49 year history.

Overall, to field 4 sides each week and to have some finals
action by the firsts was most pleasing, and a stepping stone
    for the seasons ahead.

The juniors also had a great year thanks to the usual group of
senior players, mums and dads that help out at training,
transport and at the games on Saturdays - umpiring, scoring and
child minding etc. To have an extra team this year was fantastic.
Also, to have many of the junior boys playing in the morning
and then keen to play in the seniors later in the day was
something we as a club have missed out on over the past few
seasons and have suffered because of it. Overall to have three
junior teams is something the Club needs to work hard at
retaining or trying to increase. Juniors are the clubs life
    line.

Next season sees Brian Griffin as the new President of the Mackie
Cricket Club and I wish both he and his new administration
continued success. I wish all players and supporters a safe and
happy off-season and look forward to seeing you all at the ground
    in season 2004/05.

    SOCIAL
Another very good year run by the same few people. The AFL Grand
Final day held at the SOC turned out to be a good new social fund
raising event. Thanks must go to the Emmanuel Cricket Club for the
use of the club rooms, bar areas and clubroom surrounds. Also thanks
for the work done by the Emmanuel people in helping on the day.
Bunnings BBQS were another great fund raiser. Thanks to all of the
people that organised and worked at these days. I would like to
encourage more people to become part of the vital organising and
    running of the club.

    MILO CLINICS
Another very good season for the Sunday morning clinics. Thank you
to all those senior players, also the mums and dads and helpers
that worked so hard in this very important training - showing the
little ones the basics of cricket and having some fun at the same
time. I guess those that are not parents can now sleep in on Sunday
mornings. Hopefully some of the kids enjoyed it enough that they
will play in the juniors when they reach the right age. Well done
    to all.

The club is in a great position with at this time 4 senior teams
and the prospect of another senior team to make 5 also the
thought of a one day team, when you add that to 3 junior teams
the club is looking very strong in this area, also off the field
the club has shown good stable end of the year finances despite
the set back due to the fire which destroyed our rooms.

The support shown to the club by so many other cricket clubs in
our comp and also from outside comps was fantastic not forgetting
the local community support and our supporters who all have had a
huge input in helping to get the club back on its feet, we have
lost a lot and still have a long road ahead but with the support
of these clubs and the lovers of cricket it will not be to far
away before we are back on track.

With the addition of new players last season which gave us extra
depth and the inclusion of the new merge players this coming season
the future looks bright to have more depth right down the grades,
this all goes well when matched up with our off field position and
finances which at this stage look quite stable going forward.

To Brian Griffin the new president of the club I would like to
wish you and your new committee all the best for the coming season
    and the ones that follow.

    Regards

    Tony Evans

these roles he shared the ‘Best Clubman’ Award for 2002/03.

  • We are thankful that Graham Ellis has put his hand up again as
Treasurer and due to his efforts over the past four years, the

work in the running of the club and he shared the ‘Best Clubman’ Award for 2003/03.

  • Stuart Campbell has volunteered as Social Co-Ordinator for next
season and we are grateful for the role he has carried out over

costs of the Club. He has organised great social events and we
need all members to support these functions next season and if
you can help Stuart in any way it would be greatly appreciated.
